2-Day 2-EXPLAINATION OF TRIP PLAN
Don tells me I didn’t tell you where we are going on this trip. That is true since that subject is somewhat up in the air. So here is the plan.
PLAN A is to drive across the USA, seeing all kinds of really neat stuff, have Thanksgiving with Colin, Leslie and the grandkids in Richmond, Virginia, turn south toward Florida, seeing friends along the way and visit my brother and wife on the east coast of Florida.
After that, spend time exploring various parts of the state, then attend the Alaska Tour Reunion in Tampa before arriving back home March 1st so Don can get taxes done.
PLAN B pretty much tosses PLAN A to the four winds. Don has been feeling puny lately, reasons unknown, and I am in desperate need of two total knee replacements.
We almost cancelled this trip for me to have the first operation. However, I got a cortisone shot in one knee the day before we left. I walk with a cane so I don’t fall and we packed a wheel chair (just in case). So we decided to go ahead and see how far we would get. We can always turn around and come home.
Today Don is feeling better and my knee is improved as well. One never knows how long the cortisone shot will last, but for a couple of old folks, we are better.
So right now, we are headed to Canyonlands National Park, Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, the Albuquerque Balloon Festival, all places where I expect to get lots of fun pictures. After that, on to spend a week with friends near San Antonio, Texas where we will re-evaluate our plans.
At this point we will determine if we are going ahead to the Cowboy Museum in Oklahoma City, the Passion Play in Eureka Springs, Arkansas and on to near-by Branson, Missouri. (I guess we won’t see Andy Williams there this year.) Then we will again re-evaluate our situation.
We don’t have a schedule after that, but will make one that includes all kinds of fun stuff if we decide to keep going, knowing we can turn back anytime it becomes necessary.
Seeing family on this trip is a priority so we really hope to make it all the way.
Today we are driving across the mostly flat lands of Idaho, but with some green fields. There are lots of potato fields. Yesterday it was onion fields. Definitely different than what we grow in Central Oregon.
We will hit Salt Lake City traffic and construction zones in an hour or two. Thankfully, also different than what we have in Central Oregon.
We have been invited by the State of Utah to spend the night in one of it’s lovely Interstate Rest Areas near the town of Springville. We will be sharing the space with a few other RVers and lots of big rig trucks. After that we will be hitting some really pretty country, so I will again be posting pictures.
For your information, there will be times on this trip that I will be combining activities of a couple days in one location, so although I will post most days, it may not be every day. Just keep checking.
