OK, so there was more to it than that, but you get the idea.
If you have followed any of our other blogs, you know we tend to start out on a normal RV trip and somehow end up in various unplanned "adventures."
Well, WE like to refer to them as adventures. Basically they are totally unexpected and mostly happy incidents. On this trip we are sure to stumble on to something unexpected and we hope to keep them all on the "happy" side of the score card.
From Central Oregon, we headed east toward Boise, ID. The first half of the trip was basically flat lands of brown fields. Then somewhere east of Burns, Oregon, we found ourselves driving a somewhat winding and hilly road through a canyon next to the Malheur river.
Although things were still dry and brown, it was a pretty drive. I kept thinking how beautiful it must be in the spring when everything would be fresh and green.
At lunch time we pulled over and stopped next to the river. This
highway has lots of pull-offs where you can stop. We haven't seen that since Alaska where it is a very common occurrence.
Then we were off again down the road.We crossed Stinking Water Creek. Small creek with green stuff floating on top. We did NOT stop to investigate further. The sign had spoken!!
Our destination for tonight will be a beautiful location hosted by the State of Idaho. In other words, we are spending the night in a Interstate Rest Area on Highway 84. Black Creek Rest Area to be exact.
We wandered around the front of the building and saw that this is a Historical Site of the Oregon Trail.
Who knew the people traveling the Oregon Trail had a beautiful Rest Stop with fancy restrooms and vending machines???...OK, probably not. (A sign warning them about Stinking Water Creek might have been helpful, though...)
Our neighbors here do a soft rumble and roar all night long but it doesn't bother us. Sort of lulls us to sleep most nights.
Tomorrow we will be in Utah. Unfortunately we will be be traveling through a lot of traffic getting through the Salt Lake City corridor.
We may be wishing again for the burned, brown hills of Eastern Oregon.
